Getting Started This Southern Euc is a small, quickly establishing tree that will beg to be planted as a focal point in your garden.
Size Very easy to control and responds well to pruning. All grown up this Eucalyptus tree could reach 15’. Also can be grown as a large shrub.
Leaf Vivid blue with red highlights, fragrant, and a stand out in any arrangement.
Trunk & Bark Trunk is straight. Bark is rough, fibrous and grey, turning smooth grey – green above.
Flower Large groups of white blooms in late winter.
Exposure Full sun to part shade. ‘Big 0’ is one of the few Eucalyptus trees that will do well in light shade. Also a good choice for high temperatures.
Soil Type Handles all types of soil. Will handle waterlogged soil after establishment.
Container Plant? Relative small size and fragrance make it a great choice for a deck, porch, or patio.
What we learned in Southern Euc Trials In McDonough, GA (zone 8A) tree is thriving in the shade under a 100 year old Pecan. In Atlanta, GA (zone 7B), 10 month old Eucalyptus trees had minimal leaf damage and looked great after a winter where temps reached 5°. In Western, NC (zone 6B), 10 month old trees - that froze to the ground at minus 10°- are growing vigorously from the base.
