Why 'Sheila'? Some trees have male traits, but ‘Sheila’ is all girl!
Hardiness Extremely hardy, ‘Sheila’ will thrive in zone 7A and further south. In colder zones, with some protection, trees are surviving down to zone 6B.
Getting Started This Southern Euc is an attractive juvenile tree with a moderate growth rate. Grow it for outstanding foliage, flower, and bark.
Size All grown up 'Sheila' could reach 40 feet tall. Very versatile and with pruning can be grown as a shrub, hedge, or screen.
Leaf Deep green, elongated and spade shaped.
Trunk & Bark Trunk is straight and established crown is vase shaped. Even in young trees, the bark is an outstanding olive green, copper and white, and peels on the upper trunk and limbs.
Flower Tiny fruit pods are preceded by attractive, star shaped flowers.
Exposure Full sun to part shade. ‘Sheila’ is one of the few Eucalyptus trees that will do well in semi-shade.
Soil Type Handles all types of soil but prefers a moist, well-drained environment.
Container Plant? Size, form, and soft fragrance make it a great choice for a deck, porch, or patio.
What we learned in Southern Euc Trials In Atlanta, GA (zone 7B) 10 month old trees had minimal leaf damage and looked great after a winter where temps reached 5° F. In Western, NC (zone 6B) 10 month old trees - that froze to the ground at minus 10° F regrew vigorously from the base.
