Getting Started This Southern Euc is an attractive tree displaying small, heart-shaped foliage and fibrous bark on a very fast growing tree!
Size All grown up this tree could reach 60 feet in height. That said, it has a lignotuber and can be coppiced (pruned) to the ground to control size.
Leaf Heart-shaped soft green leaves with a spicy eucalyptus fragrance.
Trunk & Bark The trunk is straight and the established crown is similar to an Oak. The bark is grey-brown, thick and fibrous and persistent on the trunk and larger branches. On the branches above the trunk the bark is smooth and sheds in short ribbons.
Flower Tiny fruit pods are preceded by attractive, star shaped flowers.
Exposure Full sun to part shade.
Soil Type Handles all types of soil, even fertile soils, which is rare for Eucs.
Container Plant? Size, interesting bark and ability to control size by pruning make it a good choice for a large container or planter.
What we learned in Southern Euc Trials In McDonough, GA (zone 8a) five-year old trees have had no damage after having been planted from small 4” containers, and all five of the ‘Jersey Girls’ are over 12 feet tall and thriving.
