Why ‘Skinny Minny? Because at a mature height of 12 feet tall it’s the smallest of the Southern Eucs, which lends well for use in smaller garden spaces and pots.
Hardiness ‘Skinny Minny’ will thrive in zone 8a and above. More trials are needed to possibly extend its hardiness zones.
Getting Started Skinny Minny's growth rate might be slower than others but definitely worth the wait. It can be grown as a bushy willow-like shrub or lower branches can be removed to form an an elegant single or multi-trunk small specimen tree.
Size Easy to control and responds well to pruning. All grown up this one could reach 12 feet in height.
Leaf Very "skinny", willow-like leaves with a fine point are an ocean blue-green color and fragrant.
Trunk & Bark The stunning bark is smooth with silver to cream furrows, peeling off cinnamon to reveal a fresh white under-bark.
Flower Massive golden star-shaped flower clusters attract pollinators and give the tree a stunning soft radiance.
Exposure Full sun to part shade
Soil Type All types, including wet and infertile soils!
Container Plant? Its small size, slow growth rate, interesting bark, and seasonal hints of color make it a great choice for a deck, porch, or patio.
What we learned in Southern Euc Trials In McDonough, GA (zone 8A) 10 month old Eucalyptus trees, in pots and in ground, had no stress signs after a winter where temps reached in the low 20’s.
